Has anyone used Diana Waring's materials on history, in particular her CDs? What can you tell me about them? Thanks!

May I ask which cds?? I have not used the kids ones... but have That’s why they call it grace, and her what in the world is going on sets. On tape though... this was pre cds *Ü*

I love them, but my kids get bored. I get excited! I still have them... don’t want to part...

I love Diana Waring. I was privileged enough to meet her at a fireside chat over in Seattle with my husband and Tina WA.... I also used her guides as resources, but they were the earlier stuff... not what’s out now. Its quality good is you ask me. *Ü*

Those were the sets to which I was referring -- the What In the World's Going on Here? and the That's Why They Call It Grace (Church History) CDs. Thanks for your input.

"What in the World's Going on Here?" We had the tape set before the cd revision too. My ds (3rd grade) LOVES these cds. He puts them on in the kitchen every morning while he eats breakfast and would go to bed with them if I let him (I think Diana Waring is a bit too enthusiastic to listen to for going to sleep, LOL) I have learned more about world history from her cds than anything I learned in school or college.

We haven't used the whole curriculum yet as it is written for students a bit older than ours.

What else can I tell you about the cds? They begin with Creation and end, I think, with the Korean War. Everything is told from a Judeo-Christian view point focusing on the accuracy of the Bible and focusing on history from the perspective of the Israelites and, later, the church. She includes lots of interesting stories along the way too. Also you get a feel for how some events effected other events, etc.

I can't think of anything else, but feel free to ask if you have other questions.

It is great material.
However, I have a bit of trouble with hearing someone seem so "off the cuff" and brash. She definately likes her own jokes. Her CD's come off the same but a bit better than her in person sessions, but they still have that tint.
So, you just have to weigh what you can hear.
These CD's are always being sold "used". I see them on vegsource often.

Love her CD's, her material, etc. The material on the cd's is a bit over my younger dc heads, but *I* have learned so much from her! We listen to them in addition to our MOH lessons. Well, that's before we gave MOH a break! My plan is to just listen to DW CD's and use MOH as a read-aloud with some oral narrations and perhaps an activity or 2 and 1 supplemental book per civilization. Anyway....not what you asked but we love Diana!

Maybe these would help me work on my OWN history knowledge, especially in the area of integrating ALL THAT SUNDAY SCHOOL with ALL THAT PUBLIC SCHOOL. In all my life, the two roads have never intersected. Drat.

This is what I am tackling these days... History and science. I'm trying to teach myself SOMETHING before the girls are officiallyl "school" age. They are 3, 1, and 1, so I have a bit of time to study.

Any audio resources for self-learning would be wonderful, as it would keep my mind going while I work and keep my hands free! We could all listen while I cook, feed the babies, or play. Or I could listen in the evenings while sweet hubby is doing his schoolwork on-line. Thanks! ;)

I have never used her written materials but we own and listen to all her cds.
It is our favorite car ride listening and the first resource I recommend to anyone who is looking to make sense of what they learned in history and the Bible.
I have bought and loaned out more copies of What's Going On Here Volume 1 and finally just bought one for the church library.

However, for US, her actual books/curriculum were too "loose." Ds and I are both quite structured. I had purchased her new ancients book, and we tried the unit on Ancient Greece. Each unit is four weeks, following a rotation of different styles of learning (thinker, feeler, etc.). I felt like the first two weeks were where all the "work" was, and the second two weeks were where all the "play" was. You had to add in lots of supplemental books for research. I really don't think her textbook has "enough" in it. But, we absolutely LOVE her Cds, and will continue to use them as supplemental material.
