Hello Everyone,

I purchased SOTW 4 and Activity Guide and realised that there was no way we would be making it through this next school year. My boys will be 3rd and 4th. Everything in the Activity Guide is way to advanced for them, even the reading suggestions. I am so sad. We have loved using the SOTW 1 - 3. Now I need a new plan.

I have the Usborne Internet-Linked Enc. and the DK American History Enc. I am thinking of doing a double page spread in the Usborne book and read the Dk book when appropriate. Anyone else doing this? How is this going for you?

Thanks,

Susie

Since the public schools study California history in fourth grade, many local field trips, curriculum and enrichment materials are designed for that age range. I'm thinking of doing this with dss because I've read that the subject matter in SOTW Vol. 3 may be too "heavy" for some kids because the time period covers some rather depressing events. Just a thought. Good luck.

Maybe a geography study then go to SOTW 4.

Plenty materials out there for that age group. We haven't done American yet but there was a thread a while back (on this forum) about Amer. Hist. curriculum. Hakim would be a bit above them. OR, take a year and do Geography of US or World. Moderns can wait.

We started SOTW 4 this year and it wasn't working so we've switched to Canadian history and are loving it (not that I'm trying to brag, because it is my own, homemade curriculum:)). DD9 is also reading SOTW 4 in spurts because she does love the book but the modern history didn't appeal.
