Or is that feed? The prices around here have gone up. Scratch is about $8 for a 50lb bag and layer pellets are $10 for the same size. It seems so high!

In NM I'm paying $10 for a 50# bag of scratch and $12 for a 50# bag of lay pellets. :glare: I get the cheapest there is. I cringe when I think how much I'll be paying for Chick Starter when the chickies get here this summer!

Ethanol is forcing up the cost of corn and all other grain, therefore animal feed and food in general. I am glad the farmers are getting a decent price but I am afraid it will escalate into a world famine. Their are already riots in other countries because the cost of rice is up well over 100% in some places.

We pay over $13 for 50 lb. of hen scratch (I think it is cracked corn & wheat). That is the cheapest we can get it locally.

I am going to make you all feel better, I think. We buy organic feed...it went up to $23/50 #s. I sell a few dozen a week, so it helps pay for feed.
Better?

...but I've never paid less, lol.
(We've been chicken owners less than a year).

About the same. But they are free range so they eat more bugs than feed thank God!

Same here - My chickens are only 8 weeks old and about to start on their second 50# bag. It runs about $10 here. I'm not sure about scratch.
