They are not posting class assignments until the day before school starts this year! Give me a break, as if the teachers don't figure all of that out at least a couple of weeks ahead of time. To be ready, have desks and cubbies labeled, they have to have their class lists; why not let us know?

I just want to be able to help my dd learn her teacher's name for goodness sake. As if the spell checker and calculator on the supply list for 4th grade wasn't enough to tick me off, I just want to know who her teacher is.

I can only imagine that it is being done to give the parents less time to complain.

I just want her home, I hate dealing with all of the stress and frustration of school. Bureaucracy may kill me off one of these days.:glare:

When I was in school, we never knew until the first day of school. My favorite back to school memories are of being at the classroom door's for our grades searching for our names which would be on butterflies or flowers or something. There was such anticipation in trying to figure out who you might have.

Are there a lot of teachers for the 4th grade or just a few so you could learn Mrs. X., Mrs. Y, and Mr. Z? We are fortunate there are only two teachers for each grade at our school.

There are either two or three teachers. Last year there were only two 4th grade classrooms, but there were three 3rd grade classrooms so I imagine there will need to be three 4th grades this year.

I am just not cut out to be a ps parent!:001_huh:

Christina,
Does your school do edline, and if so do you have an account for your dc? I am in the same situation with not knowing who my dd has until the day before. DD had the idea of looking at edline and sure enough, her homeroom teacher was listed.

We received class rosters for both of my kids several weeks ago (they start school this Thursday). Does your school at least have an open house before classes begin?

That happened to us a couple of times, and I didn't like it either. I prefer to know who the teacher is ahead of time. That way, if it's someone I don't like, I can try to switch. LOL! That could be one reason why they're not posting the roster sooner.

Do you think they would tell you if you called?

Don't be so sure the teachers know that far in advanced. When I was teaching we usually found out a day or two two before the parents. It was a rush to put names on everything. So at the school I taught it was frustrating for the teachers and the parents. The teachers were complaining "I know the office has the lists ready. Why don't they give them to us?"

Here you find out who your teacher is the weekend before school starts. This is so parents have less time to complain & try to switch.

Ditto. Less time for parents to complain about the teacher assignment, plus honestly there's a lot of changes up to the last minute and I understand that they want to have the ability to shift kids around to keep classes balanced.

My ds will go half-time this year and we should find out who his teacher is today. Wish us luck!

I am in a new running clinic and my coach is one of the fourth grade teachers at dd's school! I could be running with my kid's teacher every week  She was nice, dd knows who she is, and she said she would check the lists for me.

It's all about who you know baby!

My daughters go to private school and I didn't know who my two older girls were going to have until that first day of school. Soooo consider yourself lucky.
I remember when I was a kid we didn't know who we were going to have until the first day of school when the list was taped to the school door.

But how are you going to feel if they get a few new kids enrolled between now and when school starts and it changes who your daughter's teacher is? Please know that is a possibility, and it is the real reason schools don't publish the lists too far in advance. The teacher could change due to leveling classes, etc.

I know that it's possible. I don't really have a real preference for one teacher over another. I just want information. It makes me feel better.

I'm the same.

And I hear you Caroline that it is the real reason (flexibility) yet I do know that other schools do it differently. The next PS over from ours lets parents pick the kindergarten teacher if they have a preference, and in all grades posts the list before school lets out, gives out school supplies lists then, and has an open house time for the receiving teacher and students to meet who they'll be with the next year. All in May/June. In our school just blocks away it is a few days before school starts. I've learned we can't go out of town for Labor Day since we'll be shopping for school supplies. So I think if principals care to be more customer oriented, they can. It just isn't a priority.

I've been lucky. My kids have always (save one time) gotten a great teacher. And they often know what they're doing -- getting the teacher that's right for the kid, not the parent, and the mix of kids in the class.

I just like more info sooner!
