Today I found Vol. II of Spielvogel's Western Civilization used and bought it for $1.00. It contains chapters 13 through 29 of the full text. Unfortunately, it is the 5th edition. I can get a used copy of Vol. 1 in the same edition, and there are study guides for the 5th edition that are available used as well. My question is -- Are substantial changes in the current 6th edition used for Omnibus I that would make it wiser for me to bite the financial bullet, so to speak, and buy the newer edition of the text?

DO NOT buy the 6th edition. There is absolutely no way to justify the price. Check amazon for Vol 1. Or, you might find the comprehensive one for cheaper than vol 1. I just pointed someone to the comprehensive one listed at amazon for only $16.
Also, you read small snippets of Spiel with Omni--try having dc read the whole chapter, because it gives more backround.

Wow, what a great find! I just wanted to add that the Veritas Press website has a cross reference for both the fifth and sixth editions...I think it is under resources. I would also reiterate what Chris said about studying complete chapters that correlate with what you are reading rather than the snippets listed in the Omnibus text.
HTH!
