I saw a sign in our Kroger today (MS) that said there was a shortage due to bad weather in the areas where banannas are grown. I've noticed that the price has been .59 to .69 per pound and I haven't seen in less that that since I can remember. I usually buy them at .33

I haven't noticed. We still have a lot here at the stores, but the price is outrageous!

I saw a photo on the internet of thousands of bunches of bananas washed up on a beach somewhere. Apparently, a boat had capsized. Maybe there's a connection?

We always get bananas at Costco and were stumped when they didn't have them. Bananas are a staple here.

I have bananas. Keep in mind places like Costco and Walmart will only buy products at specific very low prices. If it goes above that price they will just not stock it. I bet you can find them at Safeway

the price went from about .39/lb to .57/lb at our local grocery store. It had me wondering if something was up with the supply of bananas.

Yes we have no bananas...we have no bananas today.

Actually, we have bananas here in Kansas, at WalMart even.

I bought two very large bunches on Wednesday at Garden Fresh Market. They had a lot available for sale. I didn't pay attention to the price though so I may have paid more then I usually do.

Our local Hy-Vee had a sign up saying the prices had increased due to banana fields flooding. The bananas were 68 cents a lb.

Didya know...

I heard a piece on NPR about a disease that has been affecting commercial bananas worldwide. It is wiping out banana plantations. There is no known cure, but agricultural experts have been trying to slow its spread.

So expect the price of bananas to keep going up as more plantations are wiped out, and then expect to stop getting bananas altogether when they are all gone.

Sad, but true! :(

They're having flooding problems right now which probably accounts for at least some of the shortages.
