One of our dear neighbors is dying. He is quite advanced in number years, but you wouldn't have known by looking at him. He is fairly fit and petite and quite a character. We care so much for him. His wife passed away about 5 years ago of cancer. His daughter, unexpectedly, passed away last fall. His downfall has been a quick one. I am thankful for him that he won't have this horrible cancer drag on for a long time.
He was brought home from the hospital earlier this week in order to pass at home. He wanted to see me and the boys, so we just went up there. He was so tiny. But he was actually following our conversations and such. He whispers since the radiation destroyed his vocal cords. I am just really saddened by the inevitable loss of him in our day to day lives. It will be very soon. We will really miss him. He adores the boys and they adore him.
Please say a prayer for him to be at peace. And for his family. His name is Charlie and we will miss him a great deal.

Praying for Charlie, here. And, for everyone who loves him.
My grandfather died at home of cancer. It was very, very hard. I miss him all the time.

Peace to you, and to him. I'm sure he feels as grateful to have had you in his life as you do about him. What a blessing.

Prayers for Charlie and all of you. Who takes care of him?
He has a son in the area. His other son has been in from California for quite some time. They hired a nurse to help when the DIL and granddaughter couldn't be there. And hospice is in too.
I couldn't decide about taking the boys. I thought it might be too hard for my 6 yr old who is quite sensitive. But Charlie asked for them. I talked to the boys and explained how much it would mean to him to see them. And how he would look and be but that it would mean the world to him to see them. Even in his state, he was very pleased to see them. He told us he loved us. He was following what we were saying very well. When they spoke, he tried to keep focus on them and I could tell he lit up in the eyes.
It has gone so fast though. He was walking up and down the street a couple of months ago and now, this. He's a really neat man. I wish we had gotten to know him even better. He had some stories from his life.
When he first started going for radiation, before things got really bad, another neighbor and I would take him dinner here and there. He wasn't eating much, but I knew he loved it when I fixed grilled salmon. When he got really bad and had to go into the hospital with a perforated intestine, his son came in to stay for a couple of weeks.
Thanks for the prayers. I just hope that he feels the love this neighborhood has for him. We want him to know that. And he wants us to visit. It brightens him up! I am impressed by his attitude and strength. I just wish him peacefulness in passing.
