Feeling panicky--Ds wants to dual enroll next year, finishing high school the first semester, and doing a true semester's worth of classes that spring. He'd then transfer from CC to a Virginia college.
Problem--Ds is challenged with foreign languages--he just doesn't get French, and only survived one semester of Latin. Granted, he had to do a lot on his own, and I was a lousy teacher. But I noticed, on the third go-round thru what was basically French 1, that he just wasn't learning (things like, remembering verbs, remembering and "getting" the grammar--he could do the exercises, but couldn't seem to get the info to sink in). It's almost like a disability.
I let him stop French a few months ago, and I will give him two years of credit, since he slogged thru French in 8th grade at ps, and two years of French here at home--but it wasn't really 3 year's worth. I thought it would be enough to meet requirements at most colleges.
Ok--so now I find out the Virginia school requires either 3 years contiguous foreign lang (French 1,2,and 3, for example), or two years of two languages.
I don't feel I can give him that much French credit, and I don't think he can do a year and a half of latin before next spring (or even including next spring). I don't think he's capable of doing two semesters of CC Latin next year.
My tummy hurts--what would you do?
