We are going to owe this year and our taxes are much more complicated than usual, so I have been procrastinating. Good thing I am so organized and have everything I need at my finger tips. :scared:

I just got ours done. I was very leary of doing them this year because we'd had changes for deductions, but I'd never gotten around to changing the witholding . It turned out okay, but I was worried and kept putting it off.

Dh asked for the TurboTax disc tonight declaring he's got to load it on the computer 'cause "we've only got 5 more days!" :-{ We will be paying and are never in a hurry to do so!

We have an accountant who does our taxes (though I give him all the figures) because my husband is self-employed. We pay him to do our personal taxes too because it's an S-Corporation (pass-through entity).
But, I just sent my federal return in b/c we owed $3,500!

Ouch! That hurts. Ours won't be that bad, but owing anything is now easy to swallow this year.

Federal taxes have been done for ages, but we're always teetering on owing MN tax, so I wait to do those. Guess I better get them done whether I feel up to it or not. Ugh!

I'm never doing my taxes again, hurrah, hurrah!!
I'm never doing my taxes again, hurrah, hurrah!!
My sister got her CPA a year ago. Never, ever, EVER again will high holy week, exam week, and taxes week all fall within the same month! Well, they probably will, but I don't care! I love my sister. I love, love, love my sister.
It's a shame that the only way I can repay her for this is by letting her know if she's in danger of any of the classic christological heresies. :tongue_smilie:

Our business taxes were due March 1 so we had everything a while ago (we use a CPA). Owed a bundle. Sent it in. Trying not to think about it anymore.;)

Good thing that you brought it up though. We either need to file or get an extension. Guess I will put it on the to-do list. Ours is also more complicated this year but I am pretty sure that we won't owe.

I am procrastinating doing other people's taxes. :glare:
I am going to file an extension for mine, second time ever. I just don't have time to do them.
Woohoo! I filed Federal yesterday and one state today. Ours was really complex this year too and I couldn't face finding all of the receipts and documents. With moving we had two home offices, two homes, two mortgages, two states!
I got two refunds though. I have to pay on the last one.

Isn't there an entire weekend between today and the 15th? Why we would they be done?

I did our federal way back when, money's already spent and we have a nice new headboard, new kitchen floor, and some other nice things.
State is done, just hasn't been filed. In fact, I have a big piece of paper with "TAXES" written on it right here in front of the monitor so that I don't forget. It's money out, so the motivation to get it in early just wasn't there.
But, I love doing taxes. Do it by hand with a pencil and calculator. Its one big giant multi-step math puzzle. Fun.

I was feeling okay about it, until MIL, who does our taxes, suggested we look at itemizing this year. *gasp* ACK! I wasn't organized enough during the year to keep track of that stuff! I don't wanna itemize! I have no filing system that might help w/ this! (For instance, when DH asked me where our mortgage tax info was, as he's digging through the "mortgage" folder, I had to admit that it's probably on the school table... somewhere...) SO now, I'm paralyzed by panic, and my MIL is probably wondering why on earth her son married this mental puff-ball. *sigh*
It's a good thing she thinks we make great kids, b/c I'm certainly not earning any brownie points in the taxes and paperwork department! LOL!

Wow!
Some of you actually waited until this weekend. You guys are very very brave to do so.
We file ours in January. We want it done and over with.

The good thing is that I'm Canadian - I have until the 30th.
The sad thing is that they probably owe me money and I'm still procrastinating.

Well, yeah(said in my best Valley Girl voice). "It's tradition." (To coin a line from Ever After). :tongue_smilie:
Seriously. We *always* wait to the last minute 'cause we always owe! I'm curious....since you do yours in January, do you generally get money back? If I were looking to get some back then I'm sure I'd fall in that camp of folks doing theirs early, too. :D It's all about incentive, you know - incentive to get some back or incentive to hold on to it as long as one can! :bigear:

regardless if we owe or get back we still file in January. We get our money within two weeks of filing (electronically). There was just one time that we owed so we just paid it asap because we knew we would owe and had money saved up for that. That was one time about 4 years ago.

This is us, annually (knowing we'll owe *and* setting it aside). Frankly, our motivation to wait is so that the money can be sitting in *our* account earning *us* interest rather than Uncle Sam's. :tongue_smilie:

I had my taxes done weeks ago. Then as I was printing it out I discovered that there was a mistake - a huge mistake - a big fat ugly time-consuming hair-tearing mistake! It is on my list of things to do. Tonight. Tomorrow I wear a wig to church!!!:D

I'm done! I'm done! I'm done! I'm done!
Ok we owe more than I thought the first time I did the taxes. But this time I know that I did it 100% correctly and so I don't have to worry if I'm audited. And we can actually pay the taxes (I was worried about that).
Did I say? I'm done! I'm done! I'm done! I'm done!

It just feels good to know it's been done *right*, doesn't it? Sorry you ended up owing more, but what a relief to know you're done with it for another year! I'm proud of you! (And I still haven't gathered my stuff... but I'll live vicariously through you.) :D
