What is a normal price for them?
Have you ever purchased one used?

The DS costs about $120. I wouldn't go the used route for this. Also, check out the big warehouse stores...they usually carry a bundle...the DS, a game, a case, etc. They are fun and some of the games are really educational (Brain Age) , my "little" sister (age 21) has on and loves it.

New ones go for about $130. Inspect a used one carefully as previous owners may have scratched/damaged the touch screen. Also, DH says that the rechargeable batteries slowly lose their ability to hold a charge so a used one may not stay charged as long as a new one (you can still play it while it is plugged in if you are near an outlet).
DH just sold his DS to a friend's kid at a bargain so that he could buy one of the DS lites. He heard that they may be bringing out another model sometime in the near future that will only have one screen (rumor only among the gamers). He wanted to be sure to get a dual screen.

A new one is $129. At Gamestop you can buy a guaranteed one for $119. You pay an extra $10 and get a one year warranty. While I've been successful in returning Nintendo products to the Nintendo company for service, it would sure be easier to walk into Gamestop and have them replace the system. Plus, I love buying used games there because you can save 10% off the used prices with a store membership and you have 7 days to return the game if you don't like it. You don't get that guarantee when buying a new game from other places. You're stuck with what you bought when you open it.

My parents bought one for my dd for Christmas. They bought a combo pack that included the DS, the Brain Age game and a case and extra stylus. I think it was about $120 for the package. I haven't seen any used, but I haven't actively looked, either.

My dd15 has a Nintendo DS and I have a DS Lite. I bought it at Target for $129.00. I also purchased and educational game that is teaching me to speak Spanish. It is called My Spanish Coach. It gives you lessons and grammar. I know it has 994 lessons and each lesson has between 10 & 15 words in them. So far I am on lesson 108 and have learned 1108 words. I was at my local McDonald's this evening. They have signs up outside in English and Spanish. I saw the Spanish sign and translated it in my head before I saw the English sign. I was right on the translation too! I like the fact that I can play a game and learn something at the same time. My daughter is also using it but has not gotten nearly as far as I have!:D

Hey, Beach Girl! That is so cool! I want that Spanish one!
I actually bought the spelling game to help my kiddos brush up. They like stuff like that.

I would suggest asking around if anyone you know will be selling one. We got a used one from a friend for $50. Never had a prob. w/it. We knew before buying that is was in good shape.
Good luck

We bought a used one for ds for Christmas. It works great but, honestly, I wish we had just gotten him a new one. The price difference was only about $40.

We bought my ds a new one for Christmas. I think it was about $120 including a game.

I bought my twins a used one to share. (I wasn't entirely sure getting them one was a good idea, so I didn't want to sink a lot of money into it.) It cost between $40 and $50 and has worked great. We bought through a game store that had a good return policy if something went wrong.

EDITED:SOLD, thanks!
my sons each have one that they are ready to sell.
They got them as gifts for a long driving trip. They are DS lites, the newest ones and in very good condition. They have screen protectors so that the screens did not get scratched.
