Hello all . I have a friend who's son is having his first communion . We've never been invited to anyone's first communion before . So just wanted to know what would be a good gift for an 8yr old boy for his first communion ?
Any suggestions would be great.

Do you have a local Catholic store? They are usually very helpful.
Here are some ideas: http://www.aquinasandmore.com/index.cfm/FuseAction/store.BrowseCategory/Category/1644/sp/0/
Around here money, around $20, in a nice card is typical.

A Bible?
A gift card to maybe Barnes and Noble?
My friend asked me to get her dd a children's book on the lives of saints.

Traditional gifts are a prayer book, rosary, Bible, etc, but that stuff isn't all that popular with 8yo boys, kwim? Savings bonds are common too. Maybe a CD of Christian music?

We got our Catholic God-son a Dorling Kindersley Children's Illustrated bible.

that's *exactly* what I just got for my Goddaughter's First Communion! I love all the photos and illustrations that show more about the land, the lives and times of the people involved.

little figurines of their patron saints, a crucifix, a First Communion, beanie baby type bear with the chalice and Eucharist on it's foot and tie tacks. We looked through magazines and on-line together to get ideas and these are things they really wanted. A picture frame is also a nice choice.

A children's first missal, a crucifix, a Catholic bible, a rosary and scapular set, are all apropriate gifts.
Money is also appropriate if you cannot think of anything else.
