Can you use High School Essay Intensive if you have never used IEW

I like the description of High School Essay Intensive given in the Rainbow catalog. We have never used IEW. My goal is for my son to be able to write an essay for the SAT's and for college applications. I am not interested in doing the entire IEW program. This is mainly based on Susan Bauer's review of the program. Programs we have completed are several levels of Writing Strands, Rod and Staff 5,6 and 7, Put That in Writing and Igniting Your Writing. If this resource would not work for us, does anyone know of another resource for teaching essay writing. I also already own Format Writing and Writing for 100 day, although we have not used those yet.

This is the SAT essay prep program, yes? If so, then, yes, it can be used without having done the other materials. (My ds has it in his room upstairs or I'd check the title!) DS went through it before taking the SAT and will do so again before re-taking the SAT. I think one of the main things it did was give examples of excellent, good, bad and horrible essays. That alone made my ds feel better about his writing abilities.
