I have posted quite a bit lately about choosing Latin or French and I was almost set to go for French when dh and I talked today and he strongly suggested Latin because French spelling is hard, which I agree, with all the unpronounced consenants, for example, suis, est, maintenant.
He wants the kids to do Song School Latin AND Song School Greek. We will buy both and play with them first.

That doesn't sound like a very good reason for not learning French to me, but if you're happy to do Latin and Greek instead, there's no problem is there?

At the same level as SSL, French would be equally easy, because all you're doing is listening to songs and building vocabulary, matching/circling pictures, tracing words and so on.

If you've got United Streaming/Discovery Education, the Twin Sisters French vocabulary songs are available for download (as are Spanish, German, and Italian) and would be a way to do something similar.

I have to say, though, that I didn't find French spelling all that difficult when I learned-it was a matter of learning rules. It's true that you can't sound out every letter and get the spelling from the pronunciation, but in many respects French is more regular than English.

Having said that, my 5 yr old has loved SSL, and has loved finding connections to Spanish, as well as finding Latin derivatives in other words and in the Scientific terminology she loves. We haven't tried SSG next, but she wants to do it, so I've got it ordered, along with LfC A.
