I have several gorgeous shawls that were given to me but they are not washable. Last night, my very favorite was ruined by something liquid spilled on it at church. :(
So, I would like to make one that could be easily washed. I can knit and do simple crochet but am very, very, very unskilled. I know nothing about yarn selection and pattern reading. So, what can I make??? Something simple, nice looking (to wrap up in at church) and easy to make???

Holly,
I've made several prayer shawls -- crocheted. They are quick and are beautiful -- really, I'm not bragging. They are stunning!! This is a triangular shawl.

For yarn, pick something you love and check the labels to make sure you can wash it. Acrylic???

The pattern is a size F (or whatever) crochet hook. You chain six and then dc (double crochet) in the third chain from the hook. DC in the remaining 2 chains. (You now have 3 dcs; this is your first shell.) *Chain 6, turn work. 1 dc in 3rd chain from hook, 1 dc in next 2 stitches. Slip stitch in chain 3 of previous row, chain 3, 3 dc in same space.*

Repeat from first star until your shawl is the desired size.

Best of luck, Holly!
