I've used LTS 1 and some of 2. They are nice phonics books, but they do require significantly more hwing than ETC. There's also less systematic practice of target sounds, but for a student that doesn't struggle with phonics, it would be plenty. If your student doesn't balk at writing, LTS is a great place to start! LTS 1 is mainly letter sounds and LTS 2 is blends and long vowels.
CTGE focuses on phonics, spelling, mechanics and grammar. It's a very thorough LA workbook and you can't beat the price. The cons are that it requires a lot of writing and the pages can be a bit crowded and visually overwhelming.
For the price, both LTS and CTGE are extremely good values. They work best when paired with the rest of Pathway's 1st grade program, but could stand alone.
