What's the best plan here?

March 19th, I mailed a check ($100) to pay my credit card. It was a check from my "piano money" account - I don't keep very much $$ in there.

It still hasn't been cashed. Although I "think" I mailed it, it was during the time I was repainting my house and also switched purses a couple of times (bad idea, I know!).

So. . . .now what?

a) assume I just forgot to mail it. Write another check for the same amount, mail it in again.

b) Wait another 2 weeks for it to show up. . . . .somewhere. . . . . .:glare:

c) do a stop check (that'll cost $$). Then write another check.

Grr. I hate it when I drop things like this!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would call the credit card company and explain the situation. Then I would probably put stop-payment on the first check and send another one.

Sorry you're going through this! Sometimes I wish we could just go back to barter...

I mailed a check for my car payment. they called me the day it was late and I explained I had mailed it and gave them a date. they were not nice to me. I stopped payment and did a transaction with them on the phone to pay it.

so when a payment posts a few days later I thought it was ok. nope, they got the check afterall and posted it. so much for notes on the account!

then it bounced. then the other payment applied.

I fought tooth and nail and after speaking to people in 3 states I was able to reverse all the late fees. It was a pain and in hindsight I would ask for leniency since it was not the norm and give it another 2 weeks. at that point I would have then repaid...

hope you get it sorted out. mail does arrive late sometimes...so ask for another week and if it isn't there by then, pay to stop payment(some banks offer this option online for half the price as in person at the bank!) and then resend. good luck!
