I was wondering about summer reading for your kids. My oldest has two books to read for AP WH and two to read for honors 10th grade lit, which is Brit Lit, so they do go together. He also has a packet to do for precalc. I haven't heard anything about AP Chem, but the teacher did mention a summer packet would be mailed sometime this summer. It seems like a lot to me, but he is plugging along, not complaining. He did a lot of reading on our 600 mile drive to the beach.

So what do your kids have to do for school this summer?

My older ds has 4 books plus some chapters and writing to do for AP Euro this summer and "optional" reading for another class. We have our younger ds enrolled in a writing class so he is reading in order to do some literary analysis for that class. Even without the required reading, they always read in the summer but the AP class has bumped this up a notch as the books are not what my son would typically choose for his summer reading.

For her sophomore English class, dd has to read A Raisin in the Sun, Grapes of Wrath, and something whose name I just forgot  She is also expected to review all algebra 1 material in prep for algebra 2 (had geometry this past year).

For his AP Lit class, ds has to read Voltaire, 1984, and The Glass Menagerie. He also has to read a book and do some other work for AP Psych.

No other reading/assignments for the other classes.

That brings back memories. I had to read Candide for my AP Lit class way back in the early 1980s. LOL.

My son is in 8th, and only his history teacher assigned reading--optional at that. The recommendations were good, though, and tie into what ds will be studying in history this year so I bought about ten titles of which he'll probably read three or so. He just finished his first book, Of Mice and Men.
