Just wondering why there are no abbreviations for these math programs:
Jacob's Elementary Algebra
Jacob's Geometry
Foerster's
Saxon
Lial's
Dolciani's
Who makes them up and how do they start being used?
For example, there's TT and CD. Who started those?

I don't know, but personally, I hope these don't get abbreviated. I've notice most abbreviations are for longer titles (but not all). It's not that hard to write out Dolciani or Saxon, where as to write out The Story of the World is a lot more work. SOTW is easy to get once you know it but are you going to call Dolciani Modern Algebra MA? I'd get confused with Massachussetts, kwim? Plus others may have books called "Modern Algebra" as you can't copyright a title. DMA? DA? That last one makes me think of lawyers. Plus, she et al wrote more than one level of text.
