This is what we think we are headed toward next school year. I think I'm a little burnt out trying to finding curriculum. I'm thinking that using a VA might ease a burden I have put on myself, and then those subject I think need a little more I can supplement at home.

Just wondering if anyone has done that before or if I'm setting myself (and my child) up for a crash and burn.

Like I said this is something I am considering (along with just using a box curriculum or using something like a SL Core)

No we hav enever done that, at least not yet anyway. This year will be different. We did sign up with a virtual academy, and will supplement to the best of our ability. This is due to financial reasons, we just don't have the money to get what we prefer this year, plus can be too time consuming shopping for used curriculum we want at a price we can afford. I think this can work. At first I was disappointed with the curriuclum, knowing it was not my first choice, however it is still quality curriuclum. It will be much easier using the virtual academy, and free up limited funds. I say try it out, and if it does not work for you, then you can always withdraw.

I suppose that is pretty much what we have gotten into doing. We are using K12 through a VA in our state mainly because I really like some of the curriculum and find the rest acceptable. It certainly has freed up some money to buy other things that I would not have been able to afford. I know that some families have found K12 too rigorous and demanding, but my daughter actually enjoys it. When she completes a lesson I log their recommended time in the attendance log, but she almost always finishes a lesson in much less than the recommended time so we have plenty of time to do our own thing.
I have found the teacher assigned to us to be friendly and helpful, not intrusive. But, my daughter is possibly gifted and tests well, so I haven't gotten any hassles about anything, and we use our freed up time to pursue our own educational plan rather than trying to get the VA to provide more advanced curriculum in a few areas. It isn't perfect, but it does work for us right now. I wouldn't hesitate to withdraw if became a problem.

I have done it. It is possible. Sometimes it can be time consuming. Especially if the VA is asking you to do their assignments. If you have children that test well and do their work well you shouldn't have issues.
