Excellent, excellent, and excellent! How's that for a review? :D Seriously, though, I love Marrin's books, and have quite a collection of them. He writes in such a way that sometimes difficult subjects are easier to understand, without writing down to anyone. I used several of his books this year for American history, and will be using at least three next year for 20th C history.

My daughter read the one on Mao and the one on the Spanish-American War. She still remembers things from them and did not quibble while reading them. (I'd say that's a definite yes from her!)

LOVE EVERYTHING he does! My son read all his stuff during his junior high years. His work is great! I wish there was a history text for high school that compared,

They present excellent introductions to and summaries of each of the historical periods that he covers. However, I don't think that they are really at the high school level. For that age, I would use them as more of an overview, and then delve more deeply with other books (unless you are using them to supplement a rapid survey course.)
