I'm kind of thinking ahead here. My ds 4 is doing 100 EZ lessons right now and is doing really well and I'm trying to think of what to do with him for phonics in kindergarten. I really would like to move him into LLATL once we are finished but I'm not sure which level would be appropriate. Would blue be too repetitive or will it cover phonics that wasn't covered in 100 EZ lessons. I was wondering if red would be too old for a kinder. So opinions please. What level would be more appropriate or if you have suggestions of something to do in between 100 EZ lessons and red. I know Phonics Pathways is typically recommended after 100 EZ, but I just don't click with it at all.
Thanks,
Heather

I didn't like Phonics Pathways either (at first). It was visually "blah", and the directions were unclear, and it didn't seem "professional" to me (like it was home produced). We used 100EZ Lessons very successfully. However, I am now using Phonics Pathways to review a few things, drill, and then we will pick up where 100EZ Lessons left off. I am wondering, however, if Reading Pathways is a better place to go after 100EZ. I haven't actually seen the book.
An earlier thread talked about Funnix 2, and how it picks up right were 100EZ left off. However, the price is amazingly high ($130)!

I used 100EZ with all 3 dc (dd5 still finishing it). From there we went on to Spelling Workout A and FLL. Dd9 is reading at 11th grade now and ds7 is reading at 7th grade and I think that is mostly attributable to the phonics incorporated in Spelling Workout, and having access to tons of books all the time.

Soph how old were your children when they finished? My son won't be 5 until Dec and he'll be finishing up in July if we don't run into any problems. Can a 4 yr old do Spelling workout A and FLL?

Blue is the basic phonics. Is your dc sounding out words? Does he read sight words? Is there a basic understanding of basic phonics? If so, Blue might be too easy. I would look at Red. Have you checked it out online? I would suggest you do so, or even better, find someone who uses it and look through it. Blue is usually at the very beginning of reading, and Red covers more in-depth phonics such as dipthongs and things like that.

I'm looking to use it for after 100 EZ lessons. I was just afraid that since red said 2nd grade that he wouldn't be ready for it yet. He won't be 5 until dec, but we will probably finish 100EZ in July if we don't run into problems.
