not really lesson plans per se, but we did a FUN party one year based around The Heart --and I mean science stuff, lol. Lots of games!
one was about how much blood the heart pumps; i forget the specifics, but they had to do a relay race carrying little cups of blood [how much is pumped in one beat?] along a set distance [how far the blood travels?], into a bowl. They only had one minute to see how full they could get the bowl. One. cup. at. a time. Then we measured and compared.
We also did a group thing where we used lots of little hearts to create a lifesize mosaic of a person. That was interesting, lol.
Give each kid a red piece of paper and have them tear it behind their back into a heart shape. Label and tape up the results. 'hide' heart stickers everywhere [on the fridge, lower corner of doors, windowsill, etc] and offer a piece of chocolate each time they find one.
I think there was a tennis ball/pressure thing we did too. i know there are lots of activities for exploring how the heart works. they tied in well w/ Valentine's day and took the focus off the sappy nature. i don't do too much sap, lol.
We also looked up a list of scripture verses that speak of love and used them to make cards. I attached a list of the verses here. That was a welcome relief to the guys on what to give the girls, LOL!!
have fun!
