I haven't researched Spanish at all because I am not planning on doing it with my own children. This would be for my cousin's ds who may be joining us at home for school next year. His mom doesn't feel that she can go it alone with him so they will be spending the days at my house. She will help with my littles and some chores and meals so I can concentrate on school. I hope it works out well. Anyway, he has never had a foreign language so he will be starting from scratch.

You might search the high school boards for info on Spanish. My kids are younger and we've done The Learnables level 1 and 2. It is good in that you learn more than you think you are, but it can get very boring if the kid isn't motivated.

This year my kids did United Streaming grade 5/6 while I watched grade 7/8. I think going through 5/6 very quickly, skipping the repetitive lessons then going on to 7/8 would be a good year of spanish. 7/8 is quite challenging, I'm not sure I'd drop a beginner into it. There are 80 easy lessons in 5/6 (plus 10 chapter reviews lessons and 10 test lessons) and 50 challenging lessons in 7/8.

Rosetta Stone is good for vocabulary but for high school you may need additional grammar instruction.

I've heard that SOS spanish is good for high school.

Thanks for the suggestions. I didn't even think to post on the HS board. I don't have kids that age so I just don't think to go there often.
