My aunt is coming to visit in a few months. She is willing to bring me books.

What are some good beginning books for my boys to read?

Duden has a really nice series of books - if you search Lesedetektive you can see all the available titles. If you go to the Lese-ecke you can see previews of the books. These are pricey I think, but they are nice hardback books.

Lesemaus has a nice series, though not as interesting as the Lesedetektive. They are a good affordable option, though. They're thin paperbacks, but have various levels. The first level includes some words as pictures.

Manfred Mai also has a book for 1. Klasse students that is full of stories. There aren't many pictures, and it's black and white, but it can give you a lot of reading! It's called something like Geschichtenbuch fuer 1. Klasse. One nice thing is that the early stories are very short, and in large print. As the child progresses through the book, the stories lengthen and the print gets smaller.

It's great to save on postage like that!

The easier, the better, depeding on the kids ability to read in German. We have lots of young children's books in German that are going to be perfect for mine as they learn more German. If it's not too late, I would look at the classic picture books on amazon Germany and get ideas there!
Hope that helps a little!

Mine liked the "Das magische Baumhaus" series and the Connie series, too.
