I have a 6yo cat who had a bladder/UTI infection sometime ago. The way we discovered the infection was that this cat was urinating in the bed. We took her to the vet and he said she was trying to let us know she wasn't feeling well. Since that time, this cat will on occasion urinate in the bed. We have tried everything. The vet says this may just be what this cat does from now on! Has anyone else experienced this with their pet, and did you find a solution? Please share.

First make sure it is not another UTI. Some cats are predisposed to crystals in their urine which makes them more prone to UTI. Some crystals can be eliminated by keeping the cat on a diet with urinary acidifiers (i.e. "protects the urinary tract" is on the bag). Diabetes is also very common in middle-aged overweight cats causing them to pee more and in various places so I would have her checked for this. If you think it is just behavioral there are products to discourage cats from continuing to urinate in certain rooms. There are plug-in products (like room deodorizers) and sprays like Fel-O-Way. Your vet should carry items like these and be able to make recommendations. Hope that info helps.:001_smile:

I found Fel-o-way on line (Amazon I think) and it worked great! Cat was peeing in ds's room because of the new dog. She didn't want to go downstairs to the litter box. I plugged in the feloway and within a couple weeks, no more peeing in ds's room. We also moved the litter box upstairs.

the room with the bed. You possibly never got all the scent out, and perhaps never will. All you can do is keep the door shut. Then is kitty starts piddling somewhere else in the house, could also be another UTI.

I have taken her to the vet several times as this is a recurring problem. She is on chronic medicine which she takes daily. I believe this is a bad habit she has formed and the vet warned me that this was possible. Eliminating access to this room only causes her seek out another bed. So putting an air deodorizer would maybe eliminate her going to this room, but would cause her to go to another room. A friend suggested putting the litter box on the bed (this is a spare room) but, I was hoping for a better option.

Some cats benefit from Cosequin for chronic cystitis. We have some clients who keep plug-ins in all rooms, can be quite expensive though.

Did you get an Xray? My cat was peeing right in front me, anywhere I was. She not only had a UTI, she had a kidney stone and was in renal failure (diagnosed by blood test). She also has arthritis at the end of spine/beginning of her tail. I guess she was in alot of back end pain. I spent $300 on xrays, tests & medicines. She's supposed to take Cosequin, but she hates it and I can't get her take it. She had to take antibiotics, be isolated and be on special, very expensive food for about 2 weeks. Now she's fine, even with the renal failure. She still plays and is active, at least as active as a 16 year old cat can be. I plan to try to Cosequin again this winter when I figure the arthritis will bother her more.

OH! Your poor kitty! I will look into Cosequin.
One other question. When your kitty has had UTI problems, did they also deficate on the bed? This happened this morning.

No she didn't on purpose, she got the "runs" also during all this time. She was a very sick kitty. We didn't think she was going to make it. Now the joke is, "she looks great for being dead!"

We have a 12 year old cat that has had problems with UTI/peeing all over. I read online that dry food is harder on them (cats with UTI problems) than wet food, so we started feeding wet food twice a day, she can still have dry, but she prefers wet anyway. Also make sure she gets as much liquid as she can, like fresh water. At first, to help things along, we gave her things like tuna water to get her to drink more. After a few days she stopped peeing all over, but we have to keep up the wet food or she goes back to it.
