I am deep olive...basically I look like an East Indian. I saw a lovely bathing suit at Lands' End but it's white and well, ya know :blushing:.
If it's fully lined, there shouldn't be a problem. I think it would be gorgeous on you, with your dark skin. I have Native American blood and I understand your area of concern. :D.

I've never seen a white suit do well in water.
If you want to look pretty on the side of the pool then go for it just don't get it wet.

Fully lined, fine. If not, you'll be showing the world things you may not wish it to see.
flowers on it, but it was mainly white. It looked dingy after a few times in the water.

White swim suits don't do well in chlorine pools. I would also be reticent to wear it, um, THAT week.
Enjoy your swim suit shopping!

My Hispanic friend looks drop dead gorgeous in her swimsuit, until she gets it wet. :tongue_smilie: We'll, even then she looks gorgeous to her DH. :D But, I have to vote NO on a white swimsuit, even fully lined.

Even if you get it wet at home, the sun is much more unforgiving than indoor lighting. If you are only wearing it poolside or on a boat then your probably safe.
I would also worry about stains. If you are in an area that has murky water and you swim in a lake, jet ski or water ski, it will get dingy fast. If you Sit on anything and get a stain...it will look like you had an accident yourself.
A spilled soda or a popsicle drip would ruin it. A solid color (other than white or cream) or print is more practical for the mommy years!
If you decide to buy it anyways, I am sure it will look gorgeous!

Land's End has a great return policy. I vote you buy it, let the dc have a ball dousing you with the hose, then check things out. If you see any shadows, send it back.
C'mon...I'll bet you already own a drawerful of practical suits. Get this one if it makes you feel gorgeous.

If it's well lined and you are a size 4 go for it. Otherwise I say nope, no way, nada.

don't do it! From one w/a Mediterranean complexion---don't get your hopes up. As previous posters have said, all is great until you get wet. Even the fully lined. Such a shame as white looks good on darker complexions.

and went swimming at "the cedar waters" -- it's a place in South Jersey that is surrounded by cedar trees. ANYWAY, the suit turned a dark rust color, and I never could get the stain out.
So, all you folks in South Jersey who are studying early American history -- if you ever want to dye fabric rust-color, just go to the cedar waters. :D

Unless you are basically fine with standing there buck naked, then run like the wind!
Lining didn't make a bit of difference in the suit I had!!!!:D

Let's just say there's a reason you see so few white bathing suits anywhere that anyone actually wears them in the water.

It didn't make a difference in my suit, either.
I've been reading this thread and feeling that terrible rush of embarassment over and over this afternoon.

Gah!This reminds me of the time our youngest son was taking his girlfriend to her senior prom (she was a ps student). She ordered a dress online, and was so excited when it arrived, she immediately called my son to come to her house to see it. I went over with him, and when we arrived, she had just put the dress on (hadn't looked in a full-length mirror, apparently). The dress was solid white -- polyester I guess.
Afterward, when my son and I were driving home, he was very quiet. Eventually, he spoke up and said, "Well, now we know what "M" looks like in her underwear." When "M"'s mom got home from work and saw the dress, she immediately started shopping for a full slip.

I owned a fairly modestly styled white ribbed one piece swim suit years ago. I got it wet exactly once. Big mistake. Bo Derek and would have been proud, but I was mortified. I think I wore that suit about four times after that because there was never a time when I could be sure it wouldn't get wet.
Sorry -- I'm sure it would look great on you, I just couldn't recommend it unless you are the type who never swims.

It was fully lined. It was beautiful. It fit me just perfectly. I'm really glad I took a shower in it before I wore it to the pool. It went straight back to Land's End, who gladly refunded my $. It would have been the perfect suit if I hadn't planned on ever actually getting wet in it!

when I was a teenager, I bought a white suit. It had texture to it and was lined, but you could still see through it. When my dad attempted to take it back, the store said there was a "no return" policy on swimsuits, unless there was some defect. Dad said, "Well it IS defective. You can see through it!" They took it back. Guess the father of a teenaged girl didn't seem someone to argue with! :)
