DS is going to go to camp this summer. He has never been before. There is a program at the local YMCA called "Camp 1/2 & 1/2" where they go 2.5 days at the day camp and then 2.5 days at the actual sleepover camp. I signed him up because he was SO excited about the idea (and he still is), and I *do* think he'll learn a lot about himself, even if he winds up hating it. However... in addition to the Asperger's, he's also got ADHD and anxiety. He's not medicated. Any thoughts on anything special I might need to tell the counselors before he goes? I've got no experience with camp at all, so any tips, even tips unrelated to his diagnoses, are helpful. :)

In fact, VBS was HUGE for him. I was always the helper in his class even at VBS until his 5th grade summer.

All my "shadowing" had paid off. Two years ago it was a HUGE deal for him to be a teen helper at VBS (and I was not his shadow in there, boy was I nervous). Anyway, we had a few glitches (like telling a scarey story to the preschoolers!) but that was it.

Last year he went to camp for the first time. In fact, he went away to camp and then also did a service project camp that's local, but all the youth groups spend the night at a local church that week. It was like camp but just in our home town.

Anyway, he did great, but it WEARS HIM OUT. He throws up on the 2nd or
3rd day usually. He's just SO over stimulated and everything is new and different. He was able to articulate to me both times when he got home that he was dissappointed that he spent the first couple of days at both camps just walking in circles. He does that to calm himself.
