Would it work or has anyone done this..... - to use ETC for dc's spelling words?

I haven't been able to decide on a spelling program for dd7 for 3rd gr for next year yet...but....she is still doing ETC bks. Would it work to just have her focus on those words for her spelling lists?

I could also do this for dd6...since she is only k/1st gr level. I don't think she needs a real "formal" spelling program until she is reading more fluently.

What do you think? I could kinda "kill" 2 birds with one stone, so to speak...

I think it could work, yes. I would, however, be sure to cover the spelling *rule* of the words she is working on.

It seems that it would be really easy to use ETC this way. I use it as a supplement to my phonics program, and my dc always spell the words covered in ETC correctly. I think that's because they get to write the words so many times. Maybe you could use the words in ETC and then add additional words from the same word family...

I didn't start formal spelling until we were finished with all 8 of the ETC books. We went from there to Spelling Power.
