We are thinking of using SL next year (Core 2). I am looking around for a used core, but my dh is concerned about not getting the "latest" version. All the books are the same as what is in my catalog. Would the IG's be that much different? The versions I've seen for sale were as old as 2003.
Thanks

There are differences and I think there may be somewhere on their website that tells what they are. Ask on the Sonlight choosing board. I had a used Core 3 and a used Core 4 and they had made several improvements in the newer versions, but not enough for me to pay full price for them:001_smile: Decide what features you must have like my used Core 3 didn't have a map that showed where the things were you were supposed to label. My new Core 5 did. Also with Core 5 I wanted the newest EHE and World Book, but Core 2 doesn't have anything like that. I hope I've helped and not confused you.

You would be fine with 2003 and sooner. Their might be a few book substitutions (though I can't think of any), but that was because they went OOP not because they weren't good choices. If your dh really wants to know I still have the 2003 catalog, so I can look it up for you.
If you were to find one dated 2002 or earlier you would actually be looking at what is now Core 1+2, and it would lack the map keys and some of the answers to questions. You don't want to go there.
Here (http://www.sonlight.com/ig-update-chart.html) is their upgrade chart. SL doesn't list book substitutions on this list, only major changes.

There is a chart on their website that spells out the changes year by year. For what it's worth, I used a core 3 from '99 and we had a stellar year. I wouldn't hesitate on a good deal for a used core, as long as the books are still in good shape.
I bought the Core C new this year, but I recently purchased Core 1(2004) used. There were a few different books, but it seems the same style to me. If you plan on reselling though, you may want to buy new so that you can get more of your money back.
