What is the purpose of the "Friends" function?

Is there a way to easily look for posts by one's favorite posters?

At the moment, I go to Members, then find the name of the poster I'm looking for, then go to Statistics/whatever, and their posts. Is there an easier way?

Is that what the Friends function is for? Do I "Friend" someone and then use their name in the Friends' list to look up their posts?
