I think I remember reading about study guides for Joy Hakim's History of US series. Am I correct in remembering this? If so, can someone tell me where I can find them? I tried a Google search, but was not coming up with anything.
Thanks!

You can purchase Teacher's Guides through Rainbow Resource and other suppliers. RR sells each guide for $16.25.
PBS has teaching guides from the series that they aired based on the History of US books. They have webisodes online as well. The teaching guides do not start at the beginning of the books, though. They begin at the birth of the nation. I have used these and they are excellent! Here is the website: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/historyofus/teachers/guides.html

So, you can use them with the books or do you have to watch the webisodes also?

I bought mine from Amazon but I noticed that there are two different kinds. There's one set for elementary school and another for middle and high school. I am using elementary level for my 4th grader and am having him answer most of the question in writing, then we discuss them. It is fairly challenging.

You have to spend a little time matching up the teaching guides with the books but you can use only the info that you want with the books. I liked using the primary documents in the guides, analyzing and discussing them, and putting them in the history notebook. These are written for classroom teaching. I picked what I wanted and made lesson plans for my son 3 years ago. Unfortunately I did not save these (partly because that was for my gifted son and they would not work with my second son) but now I am looking at the guides and planning for my 7th grader.

Here's something I had saved:
Sonlight’s guide is very good. I highly recommend getting the Sonlight Core 100 IG. It walks you through a very thorough study of American history. It's made for a year but frankly that seems VERY fast to me. If you get the IG you will have study questions for the older two (the answers are separate so they can answer them in writing if you wish). You'll have teachers notes for the entire Hakim series (including some notes on some of her biases and other ways to view the subject). Notes and questions for all the SL recommended books - of course you don't have to use those books but if you choose some of them you have ready made notes. There are also writing assignments included. It's a really phenomenial IG - one of their best.

They have a very liberal bias and we are very conservative. We are going to use them this year with SL 100. I *love* John's SL 100 notes and comments on the Hakim books. I love that reading Hakim and the notes will show the different views and hopefully bring about some in depth discussions.
