Hi Everyone,
I am wondering if there is something similar to History of US by Joy Hakim but for Ancient study. My daughter loves these and we will be beginning Ancients in August. She will be entering 6th grade.
Thanks!

or if you are looking secular or Christian, but my dc have enjoyed MOH. It's not exactly like History of US in that it is broken up into specific lessons whereas History of US is like a good book. BUT, the tone is similar...conversational almost. It would be perfect for a 6th grader. Sorry I can't think of anymore but I hope you get more responses!

Hi,
I am looking for a Christian curriculum. I like the commentary of TQ but have a difficult time getting the books. I guess I am still looking for the "Holy Grail" of history curriculums.

MOH1 and Diana Waring History Alive. If your dd enjoyed the storytelling style of History of US, she might really enjoy Diana Waring's History program. Diana is a great storyteller (others have disagreed...I guess she's not everyone's cup of tea :)).

I forgot about Diana Waring. I am going to look into these two suggestions. Thank you so much for the help.

Lynda, we have really enjoyed Story of the Ancient World (http://www.nothingnewpress.com/guerber/ancient.html) by Guerber/Miller this year! There are also recommended books by chapter in the back (short lists). SAW focuses on Old Testament history, but it weaves in quite a bit of the history of other nations too. The table of contents and samples are available at the link.

I found The World In Ancient Times (Oxford Press) which we plan to use next year - 5th grade dd.

http://www.amazon.com/World-Ancient-Times-Set/dp/0195222423/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1206881728&sr=8-1

I am just getting into the planning for next year, but it looks good. That being said, it is too much material for one year. They also have a teacher's guide and student workbook for every volume. I have one of the teacher's guide's and it looks like it will be very useful.

McGraw Hill did come out with a series a couple of years ago as I was looking over them at my library. As I recall, they were similar in size to the Hakim books, too, and seemed to be for middle school ages. I can NOT remember the name of the series, LOL, sorry I'm so old and forgetful.....

You might like to look at the Ancients books by Suzanne Strauss Art.
