Are the books used as part of the writing assignments or as a short additional reading list? I am trying to decide what I really need to buy to use this program.

If I recall correctly, the books are just assigned, not discussed or used to answer questions in the curriculum. I think you could do the history without reading the books or by substituting others.

The books are used in writing assignments, mostly summaries and later book reports.

So...which is it for Ancients? Yes, or no? Now I am confused.

I agree with kRenee and disagree with Jenny in Atl.

I bought all the additional books new. That was a big mistake! There is almost no reference to the books in the program. It would be better to buy used, borrow from the library, or substitute from the library.

The only assignments based on the books were to compare Athens & Sparta and create a map based on Theras and to write a summary of the Greek gods from the Greek Myths book.

Also, I highly recommend skipping the History Pockets if your children are not into cut-and-paste.

A nice supplement is Life in the Ancient World by Bart Winer.

Thanks, Sue. Mine do like cut and paste so I'll probably go with the History Pockets.

Sorry, I mixed in the summaries of the overall reading and not just the assigned "books". We are on Level 2 Middle Ages and there has been a good bit more. Getting old. :tongue_smilie:
