I'm fascinated by these lectures. I've been listening as I'm doing dishes/laundry/puttering around here on this lazy Saturday. I just wish I could talk about it w/ someone :)

I just listened to this one:

Lord of The Rings and the Defense of Western Civilization

And now I'm listening to the others. So good!

This is found at Seattle Pacific University on I-Tunes University under Hot Topics, JRR Tolkien.

Thanks!

I have this book, but I haven't read it yet. I'm going to have to listen to the lectures.

I'm wondering if it is Alan Jacobs or another guy (spacing out his name at the moment) who have spoken about Tolkien on the Mars Hill Audio Journals...

My boys might be interested too -- we're doing the Literary Lessons from the Lord of the Rings right now. The older one esp. is quite bright and has listened to some of the Mars Hill interviews (Ken Meyers interviews people with brains the size of a planet -- at least that's how overwhelmed I often am listening to these!) (lol!) He has interviewed Susan Wise Bauer on a past audio journal.

Thanks for bringing it up. I'll have to look for those and give and listen! Warmest regards, Lori D.

Lori,
I've listened to Dr. West and Peter Kreeft and some others from the series. I'm glad I found these lectures now -- as I would not have appreciated and/or understood them before this season of my life.

Have you listened yet?

Great, video too. I'm a big fan of Peter Kreeft and his lecture on evil is fantastic.

Aside: I was surprised to see him reading his lecture instead of looking at the audience and referring to his notes. No big deal, it's just that after listening to his lectures for years I always pictured him speaking extemporaneously.

I was going to try to get DH to download some so we could listen as we do our big driving trip. We leave Sat.! I'll wave wildly in your direction as we cross over from ID into WA along about mid April! Wish we could meet and "talk Tolkien" over a cup of tea. : )

Thanks so much for alerting me to these lectures. I'm going to enjoy these while we drive! I'll check back with you afterwards. : ) Warmest regards, Lori D.
