it STINKS! I am hyper-sensitive to smells anyway and this is making me feel like I'm gonna choke to death. I've never done this before. Is it supposed to be this funky?
Yes, if you have a lot of grease or any baked on goods. It basically bakes them off so they are just ashes at the bottom of the oven. (I just vacuum them out)
The first time I cleaned my oven I didn't realize how hot it would get, nor how long it would take to cool down before it would unlock and I could open it. I thought it had broken.

I've never used the self-clean feature because it scares me.

But it'll be so pretty and CLEAN when it turns off! And this is a great time of year to do it - keep the kitchen warm for hours. lol. From what I remember (erm, cleaning the oven happens even less than cleaning the ceiling fans, around here *blush*), it does stink to high heaven. We're big on grease at our house. :)

Yes, It stinks. I've alway run it at night (don't know if this is recommended or not) so that I don't have to smell the bad smell all day long.

Okay, confession here. I'm afraid of my self-cleaning oven.
It *really* needs to be cleaned. It's got some grease, and, well, it really needs to be cleaned. Right now, when I go above 400, it smokes and I have to turn off the smoke alarm. Will it really be okay to do the self-clean? Is it beyond hope? Will our house fill with smoke and be horrible? Are you sure it won't catch on fire?
