Ds10 was diagnosed with Aspergers last fall. He also has ADHD, and some sensory issues. Since we have been going through Speech for pragmatic language disorder, and now OT for dyspraxia (motor incoordination). We have also been seening a Clinical Psychologist, which works with Asperger, and Adhd patients. Well, she is moving in a month. So... I am trying to find someone else to work with ds. We have made huge strides in him recognizing emotions and handling some anger and frustrations in everyday life.

There are no other Clinical PsyD's in her office that are taking new patients. So I am hunting... hunting... hunting....
Does it matter whether you go with a Clinical Psyd? Can Liscensed Professional Counselors do them same thing? What about Licensed Social Workers? It seems there are not many people in this area that work with Asperger patients... UGH! So... have any of you seeked help from any of these types of professionals? Did they specialize in ASpergers? Several work with ADHD, but is that sufficient???

Any thoughts or suggestions???!!! I am ALLLLL :bigear: :bigear: :bigear:

I wish I had answers for you! Have you asked your current doctor to get you in with some of the other doctors? Often they will make an exception if someone refers them specifically. That is how my husband got in to see my PCP, who was also no longer taking patients. I'm not entirely sure what the difference is between all the different acronyms, so I'm no help there.

I will offer you lots of :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

That's what I was thinking. If nothing comes of that, ask the OT and speech therapist, whichever you feel "gets" your child better. Ask your pediatrician for three or four separate recommendations and call them all -- ask a few questions before you meet any of them.

Change is so hard for Aspie kids, and it is really hard for the parents too when you have found someone who is connecting with your child and helping to achieve real change. I'm so sorry you have to weather this additional upheaval.
