I ruled out FLL, but I looked at PLL and it looks exactly something my son would love. He would love the gentle style, and pictures!

It's hard to predict how well he'll be able to write in 5 months.

Can someone tell me if PLL is too difficult for a first grader. He writes a little better than average for his age.

Based on the sample, it would be too much for my first grader. The copywork selections would be too much, and the poems would be too long. However, she'll be a younger first-grader than yours will be.

Have you looked at Language Lessons for the Very Young? That's what we bought for next year.

I tried PLL with my dd in first and it didn't go over very well with her. She just wasn't ready for the writing, but I think writing is just going to be a weaker area for her.

I have found several CMish language arts books on google books. The nice thing about it is that they are free and you can look through the whole book. A few of them have cursive writing so I am going to make my own copywork pages to go with them.

Yes, I think so. It's designed for 3rd grade.

It was written for 2nd and 3rd grades. My lo has always loved the looks of this book. From 1 1/2 yo she would get it off of the shelf and look through it. :001_smile: I think the suggestion of using Queen's LL till your child is a bit older is a good one.

I bought PLL for my very advanced first grader, thinking it would work well for us. We found it to be too much for her age. We ended up back with FLL to finish off the year. I'm looking forward to trying again when we start grade 2 in July. :001_rolleyes:
