How do you handle the handwriting aspect? Do you just do it like it's in the book? OR skip it and use your own handwriting program? OR use your program in addition to what is provided?

We didn't do the handwriting. DD wasn't ready for it. We did HWOT when she was more ready.

When ds went through 100 EZ, we didn't use the handwriting at all. We weren't at that point yet. he was ready to learn to read, but not to write. Then when we did start handwriting, we used HWT.

We didn't do the writing. We didn't even follow the script exactly and I did not make my son read everything twice. I think If I had followed the script exactly we would not have finished the program. However, we were overall happy with the program and the results.

We're not doing the handwriting either.

I did find some worksheets online that go with 100ez lessons though. I was planning on using these but decided that we wouldn't work on handwriting yet.

I have worked through this with four dc now and none of them were ready for handwriting as early as they were ready to learn to read.

We did do the handwriting, although I didn't have my kids do the "a" the way the book wanted them to. In the early days of the lessons, we used a MagnaDoodle instead of paper for doing the letters, and had them trace what I had written in large print.

I never used the writing, either. My oldest 2 boys were early readers but they were definitely not ready to handle the fine motor skills.

I did not use the writing portion of the book with either child since they were already doing Handwriting Without Tears. I suppose it would depend on the age of the child, but both of mine learned to read at age 4....so HWT was a better fit for us.

I've done that with two kids.

Well, I had him do the writing on the first 3 lessons. He did very well. I made up my own sheets. I bought the HWT Kindergarten book, but I think (for now anyway) that I'm going to have him just do what's in the book. To solidify what he's learned.

We'll see how it works out. Thanks again for all the insights... now I won't feel bad if I do drop the handwriting portion :)

we do not do handwriting because he writes doing his school work and if he writes something that i cant read he will redo it :) I fig that would be good enough instead of boring him with handwriting books:)
Plus he gets plenty of practice with handwriting when he writes out storys :)
