The video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDJst-y_ptI&feature=player_embedded%C2%A0) is geared towards public school but covers the basic myths of gifted students and their needs and programs or lack of them in public schools. It appears to have been done by high schoolers.

Yes, yes, yes!

I'm very glad homeschooling is a financial option for us, because there's NO GT support before 3rd grade, and it's only a few hour a week pullout after that. Until the kids get to high school and can do dual enrollment or AP, they're just supposed to make it.

...I really enjoyed watching that, and it was my experience to a T for the brief 4 months that my son was in first grade....so many of the misconceptions detailed in this video were experienced by us (sorry, that was a poor sentence).

We're committed to hsing now for good.

Yup--here there is not support before 3rd grade, the CogAT in 3rd grade, and then no support after 3rd grade either. They will not accept WISC scores, only the CogAT, which means that 2E kids with processing speed issues will essentially *never* be identified.

Of course, once a kid is identified nothing happens anyway.

Thanks for sharing!

Our district suspended funding for GT programs 5 years ago, claiming lack of funding as the reason. The funny thing is they rent private tour busses to take the sports teams to away meets. Quick example - the girls' tennis team was given a tour bus to travel 3 hours to an away meet. The cost was $1500 for a one day event. On the flip side, my DD loved watching a Jeff Dunham video on the way to the match.
