I wonder just how many phone calls I will get asking to clarify a specific brand. LOL! Those are details that he just doesn't focus on like me. IE: I am the picky one with regard to those things! LOL! Bless his heart, he'll do it though knowing he will likely get the wrong thing on something. And he's got older ds with him. Even funnier with the 2 of them. I'd love to be a fly on the wall while they are "discussing" which variety of TP to get! LOL! Funny guys!

I get about 3-4 phone calls from dh as he does some shopping for me then he starts doing a play by play as he's walking down the aisles. I try to encourage him to just call me back rather than wandering through the store with me in his ear. (I guess he's just trying to pretend I'm really with him :0). The funniest was when he was actually having to buy me some feminine products & a lady in the aisle was chuckling at him (There was another husband there too, but he just did a snatch & run rather than linger).

That's funny! I have had to have my dh get things before too. I wrote it out very specifically even down to the colorings on the packages! Those things and kinds of details are not on his radar screen. He is brilliant with details for his work though. Amazing how our brains work so differently yet we all manage quite well.

The last time I asked dh to stop and pick up milk he said, 'and where would I find this milk?'
Seriously.
Then when he figured out he could get milk at SuperCenter he came home with $50 worth of stuff. It included wine though, so all was well. ;)

My husband does almost all of our grocery shopping. It is *the* household chore I hate most.
In our earliest days he would call a number of times, clarifying brands, sizes, etc., but then we got into a rhythm. He buys whatever protein, vegetables, fruits and other staples he thinks we need, and I cook with whatever is in the house.
Sometimes I ask for specific ingredients, but mostly I cook the meat, a couple of vegetables, toss a salad and bake a loaf of bread.
The simplicity of our routine is wonderful.

Very nice! I usually prefer to do the shopping since I kind of plan meals on the fly sometimes while shopping. But lately he has had to go more since I was ill. He doesn't mind. But I kind of like picking out the food and such. I am thankful he will go though. He'll do whatever -- he's really easy going and likes to please (well, he likes to do things for me when he can).

This sounds exactly like my dh. I'm so tempted to send him with my oldest ds just to see how many times I'd be called!! LOL
Actually, I LOVE going grocery shopping!! I love the time alone and I LOVE looking over all the new things at Trader Joe's (have I mentioned enough that a new one opened 2 miles from my house!?). So, I try to be able to wait so that I can go BY MYSELF, thank you very much!!!!

I know what you mean! Lately, I have been taking one or the other of the kids with me for some alone time with each. But before recently, I would NEVER let them come. Total alone time for me that was sacred!

Well, my poor dh had the misfortune that despite the detailed description of said product, there actually wasn't any of that type on the shelf, hence the phone call. He takes it all in stride. I guess I should put this under the "Why I love my spouse" post. He's such a willing helper.

If there is something that absolutely has to be a specific brand/type/size, then I need to go buy it myself. :auto: I will only send him if I am too sick to go, or I am willing to accept other items for what is on my list. For example, I once had Jello brand instant pudding in vanilla on my list and he brought home the type you have to cook. If I ask for the healthiest white bread they have, he will bring home the least healthy wheat bread. He always brings home extra stuff too. One time I sent him with a long list when I was sick and he totally messed it all up but I was so sick that I didn't care. He knew I was really sick to not say a word about it.

Mine does fine on which brands to get, etc. but he always comes home having spent about $60. worth of stuff that wasn't on the list, sigh. Tonight was no exception, and that was with me with him, lol. But hey- I won't turn my nose up later tonight at the dairy-free ice cream he bought me- no wonder I can't lose weight!

Mine does most of the grocery shopping, too, and I don't get as many phone calls as I used to. If I need specific ingredients, then there will be a phone call.
Sometimes he just buys a lot because he knows that no matter what I'm saying, I really won't end up going. He can tell when I'm having a rough week (or month!) It's very nice, but I do sometimes have to make up a dinner menu on the fly, by whatever he's chosen.
I can't complain, though. Anything beats having to brave the crowds!

My dh, like most of you have also said, will go to the store and come back with things that were not on the list, having spent way more than was necessary AND it's on stuff that I would never buy. It's almost always junk food, LOL.
The last time he went to the store, my dd went with him. Apparently it didn't go well because the whole time they were there, dd kept saying to him, "Mom wouldn't be happy if you bought that..." LOL! I have trained her well.... :)

That is one area where DH knows that bringing back the wrong thing is a very bad idea. (Mostly I buy them myself, but...)
Anyway, he went to get something rather specific along those lines one time and came home with something else. It turned out that they had discontinued the favored item, and he had read all the labels on similar products to determine what replacement was the most similar to what I wanted.
Now THAT is true love. From someone who is very secure in his manhood, for sure.

My DH does ALL the grocery shopping. My responsibility pretty much ends at the list. And he's great at it too, he enjoys it, and we usually agree on a set amount to spend and he rarely goes above that. He likes to cook too.
No, I will not trade him. :001_wub:
And this is my 50th post!! How exciting is THAT!!
