Rhonda,
We're close to the Woodinville library and about 10-15 minutes away from the Woodinville Costco. And we've also just moved to the area last year (May). Prior to that, we were renting a house in Kirkland...having just relocated from DFW in July 2006.

Dear Natalie,
I am glad you are no longer "crusty"--I know what you mean. Humph. One more thing to learn. Come to think of it, HARumph. But I'm glad, now, even though there are still some things to work out in using the boards.
I didn't mean to hijack anything you were planning--please forgive me for doing that. I didn't know about your efforts until after I had blathered all of this.
I hope there is room for both of the events. Do you think so?

Your son might enjoy the mid-day Wednesday weekly play date known as The Hub. Very nice group of varying ages. Some years it has classes, this year it is just fun. Very pleasant and well behaved kids, and people bring all kinds of things to share. Contact me if you want more info.

if there is enough interest. I live within sniffing distance (i.e. I can smell the bloomin' onions) of the Fair. I plan on going to the conference for some of Friday, depending on the lecture timetable, but certainly not the whole day.
When it is closer to the event, I'll trawl for interest, which day (or both) etc. I'm planning on things to drink, snacks, etc. I live next to a perfect kid-park, and you'all could come for a snack before driving home.

I live near the annual WHO conference, and if people are interested in a snack and tea/drink thing afterwards, I'd be happy to host it. I will probably post a general invite to see if people are interested the last week of May. I could do either Friday or Saturday.

live in Mason County. I am a newbie to the forums. I also haven't any real experience with the TWTM approach to HSing. I am still learning and exploring. There is a lot to wade through. I came across this forum in my search to get more plugged-in and get some networking in place. I just started using actual curriculum with my dc this last January. My husband was in a terrible dirt bike accident and was temp. disabled for 6 months and then we became preg. with our youngest, pregnancy is difficult for me. So my oldest is just learning to read. He is brilliant with math, though seems to be struggling with his fluency in reading. I think I read somewhere that this can be normal. Is that true and if so is there a book that I can read that will give me more insight?
LOL, a little off track with my introduction....

Our school district asks for grade level. Does anyone just use the WHO form instead? I don't want to give more information than needed.
PameliaSue
09-11-2008, 06:27 PM
I believe you just use your district's form and leave blank the sections that ask for info not required.
This is what the WHO (http://www.washhomeschool.org/) website says:
Declaration of Intent Time!
Remember to declare your intention to homeschool by filing your Declaration of Intent (DOI) form this fall! Declaring is an obligation of parents under the Home-based Instruction law. The DOI is to be filed with your local superintendent by
September 15th.
Remember, only include children ages 8 and older, and only include their name, age (not date of birth), and mark the one box only if you’ve chosen to qualify to homeschool by working with a certificated person to supervise your studies.
That’s all that’s required by law!
Parents often make our office aware when their school district’s DOI is out of compliance with the law. Some districts ask or insist for more information than required in statute. Check out our sample of the correct DOI form (http://pdfmenot.com/view/http://www.washhomeschool.org/Declaration.pdf)and our Declaration of Intent Education Packet. (http://www.washhomeschool.org/whoDeclarationPacket.html) We suggest that you make a photocopy of your completed DOI for times when you need it to demonstrate your status as homeschoolers (for instance, to get free Puyallup Fair tickets).
If you have any questions, feel free to contact WHO at 425-251-0439 or email at whocontact@washhomeschool.org. whocontact@washhomeschool.org (whocontact@washhomeschool.org)

I use the WHO DOI form every year... because the district I was in asked and tried to be firm in me giving more info than i needed... including SSN.... The WHO DOI is enough to satisfy the State and the distrcit.... *Ü*

Hello, James and Veybe Davis, Camano Island WA. We are becoming educated on homeschooling. We are fundamentalist believers and, so far, like the looks of BJU for math, Abeka for language arts/handwriting/reading, Apologia for science, My Father's World for Bible and History, and have just heard of Rod and Staff... looks promising, but must read more about them. We plan on attending the WA conventions, and we have some links already, but your links are likely better than ours, so feel free to post them. Merry Christmas!

Yes, it is family friendly. Prices can be more expensive on the island for groceries etc. because everything has to be ferried over. I have friends who have raised their family there and like it very much. There are a lot of opportunities for kids to explore the beach or to ride horses and otherwise play outdoors.
