Just wondering if there was anyone on this board anywhere near me. I didn't see any recent Ohio threads.

I know this is an old thread, but we're considering moving to NE Ohio. No set location yet - near Akron? Mansfield? We need a relatively large medical facility, but are also aiming for the snow belt, some "country" acerage, and a decent commute. I keep reading about high crime and gangs, though... Any input from those actually living there (I've never even visited the area, so I have no idea what's truth, and what's legend)?

Thank you!

Hi!
We live near Mansfield, but not in Mansfield. My husband is a police officer there and because of that he did not want us to live in the city he policed. There are a few neighborhoods that are OK, but if I were you I would probably steer away from Mansfield. Akron is pretty high crime too unless you get into one of the suburbs. If you are looking for something with acreage, that would probably put you away from the bigger cities anyway. Cleveland has some nice suburbs, but I would have to know specifically which ones you were looking at to let you know for sure. Just in case you reply to this and I don't see it, feel free to PM me:)

OK, not to be annoying (and I am sorry I keep hijacking the thread with my questions  )... now DH is looking at a job offer in Canton. Any thoughts on the area? The "city data" forums have varying info :001_unsure:

What exactly do you want to know?

The are 2 hospitals and it is in close proximity to Akron Childrens, about 30 minutes. Everywhere has gangs, I don't think there are loads in canton. there are neighborhoods to avoid, just like anywhere else. Akrons crime is higher than canton's, but it is bigger.
Canton misses the snowbelt. Akron is in the snowbelt. Hartville/Uniontown/Louisville may be more rural for you.

I was having issues posting on my phone, and only got a short message in. However, you answered my questions exactly! Thank you so much!
