I think someone else asked this recently so forgive me if I am repeating. Are they both strong in writing? Is the main difference write out as to write in wkbks? Any reviews would be appreciated. Thank you.
This would be easier if the second WWE book was ready but Susan has a LOT going on.

I've got a review comparing these two programs on my blog. Just click on "Curriculum Reviews" in the sidebar to find it! HTH!

Yes, that was very helpful. Out of curiosity, why do you only use BJU's writing and not the whole thing? I tried combining growing with grammar 4 and R&S 4's writing only but it flopped. We use All About Spelling and I would not want to give that up. It is the only approach I have found works for my guys. Is it possible to leave out the spelling and penmanship with CLE? Does the book just have copywork or is it instruction in letter formation? Thank you for taking the time to respond.

If CLE Sunrise LA included writing lessons in the LightUnit, I'd use them, but it doesn't. CLE does have a separate writing program, but I use BJ writing b/c it has a lot of hand holding and isn't too teacher intensive for me to teach. BJ also uses the 5 step writing process which I like. They also have lots of charts and venn-diagrams, which is helpful for my ds. I don't use the entire BJ English program b/c it's too repetitous year after year for my tastes and I don't think they include enough review of previously taught material to allow for retention. BJ English is really good, though, and it would be my second choice. Regarding your other question, yes, you can leave out whatever parts of CLE that you don't care for, but IMO the best part of the program is that it includes so many language arts components. I'm using the 400 series which does not show any letter formation for penmanship. I'm not sure what the earlier levels are like. You can call and request samples, though. The first sample is free and the others are around $2. HTH!
