Hi!

I'm just in the process of signing up for Paypal, but thought I should as for some info. Can you please help me?

#1 - Do you find it is safe/secure? Or have you had a bad experience?

#2 - Is it necessary to be verified? (I'm going to use this account very little and only for small amounts - eg. under $100.)

Thanks!!

1) Yes. I've never had a problem with it at all.

2) Not sure, but it helps. If you want to send funds from your PP account, you have to be verified.

1. It is very safe and secure, and I will tell you about my good/bad experience with Paypal.

Ds #3 had a birthday in December, and we decided to get him one of those motorized, ride-on John Deere tractors (because the boy is obsessed with tractors). I did my research and ordered it from what I thought was a reputable online seller (according to Payal and everything else). After three days, the seller had not even sent a confirmation e-mail. I began e-mailing every couple of days, asking about a confirmation, shipping information, etc. This package was way too big to ship USPS, so I knew there had to be tracking information if it was sent. This was a $200 item, so I wasn't going to just let it go. I got Paypal involved, and after about 3 weeks, my money was refunded by Paypal, and they will pursue further action with the seller. I am very happy with them.

2. I got verified, even though I've only done one over $100 transaction in the 7 years I've been using Paypal. I think it makes people more secure to know that you are verified, and it also keeps you from dealing with a rejected charge because your bank issued new debit cards and you forgot to update yours...the verification links your Paypal account to your bank account. If that makes you nervous, you could always open a free checking account strictly for Paypal, and transfer just a little money at a time, before you made your transactions.

great luck with Paypal. I think verified just means that you have funds to use in Paypal, as opposed to your bank. The only difference is that there is a delay while Paypal confirms that there are funds in your bank. But other than that, there is no difference. Once you start buying and selling you might find it easier to just leave a balance in your paypal account. That is what I do.

Yes, I've sold to people who aren't verified with no problems, and as long as it wasn't a high priced item, I would do it again. If I were selling something over $100, I would probably request verification.

Many new paypal users aren't even aware of what verification is or how or why to do it, so I don't hold that against them. I probably wouldn't buy from a non-verified seller, though, because if they didn't send an item, the funds might not be available for Paypal to get your money back.
