I am considering switching from our TOG/BJU combo to Oak Meadow next year with my slow reading, dyslexic student. I am also thinking about bumping him 'down' a level (he should be rising into 5th; I'm looking at OM 4). We'd be doing OM Social Studies and Science for sure, perhaps incorporating part of their English. We would continue with MUS for Math, AAS for spelling, and also finish up the Vertcy Writing/Grammar program that is currently in progress.

I like that OM incorporates a lot of hands-on in their curriculum, including Art, which would be perfect for my very visual-spatial learner. I dunno. I just feel that OM is more ... um, well, "craftsy" than academic ... which is fine ... but also scares me. I'm already concerned that my LD son is not going to get anywhere near the educational rigor as his older brother, who is going the BJU route.

Decisions, decisions.

I am planning on doing OM 4 with my son next year. I am considering dropping him back to third grade though - it's a tough decision!

What I have heard from OM users is that the syllabus gives you a lot of flexibility and encourages you to substitute books at your child's reading level if the ones assigned aren't a good fit. The writing concerns me, but I see many of the LA assignments have options.

I do think OM can seem less academic, but I think of how much ground we covered this year and how little my ds will retain, and I would rather go slower & deeper with more activities this next year. Frankly I think I even prefer the local focus of OM. The four-year history cycle is great and all, but the information my son learns about our local ecology and history will be more useful to him.

I plan on supplementing OM as our interests lead us. I think the lessons do have additional resources listed and are easy to beef up. I have Singapore MPH science that I may do alongside the OM science too.

They do have some sort of refund policy (60 days???) so you can try it out and see if it fits. I bought my syllabus as a "second" which also saved quite a bit of $$.

There have been a few lengthy threads about Oak Meadow on the K-8 board! You might search for them. A couple of ladies have used it for years and have really good advice.
