Hello from a newbie :001_smile:
I have been lurking for a few months, mainly because I don't have children yet, but decided to join since I am self-educating in between work and life in general.
I have to say, that as someone from Singapore, I have been absolutely astounded at the widespread use of our maths curriculum halfway around the world!
Looking forward to interacting with everyone :001_smile:

Welcome, Anne! You'll find lots of information, I imagine, on this board!
A funny about Singapore math: When ds was 6, we were in England (dh was at a conference, and we had tagged along). We went to a park, and I sat on the park bench with a mom while our two sons (who turned out to be born on the same day, same year) played happily. She was from Singapore, so of course, I began raving about the math (maths) that we were using. She was HORRIFIED. She said it was a terrible program, and when I countered with how WELL kids seemed to do with it, she said that was ONLY because the children in Singapore receive extensive afterschool tutoring, and that they would be terrible at math if they only used Singapore Math. I've always thought that was funny / ironic / hopefully not true! The grass is always greener, I suppose!

another non-parent! I too just love learning, love curriculum and love working with homeschoolers.

This is such a civilised and pleasant forum compared to so many others on the internet :001_smile:

That is funny. It's true that many Singapore parents send their children for tutoring on top of regular schoolwork, largely because they want their children to have a competitive edge. I'm not sure that it has much to do with whether parents think the curricula are good or bad and I'm pretty sure it would continue regardless of the curricula used!
