Do you think this "could" be a standard, run-of-the-mill rash? I'm hesitant to run to the dr yet.... will see how it looks tomorrow.

We've read up online and of course measles & scarlet fever turn up alot. Yikes.

She did have a low fever for maybe 2 days - a few days ago - but it never went over 101. ~something. When I took it tonight it was 99.~something -so it's not "really" a fever.

It doesn't look like the eczema pics online.... does look somewhat like the scarlet fever ones but she doesn't seem to have those other "telltale" symptoms.

Anybody have any experience with this? It pretty much just feels like sandpaper and it is all over - torso, arms, cheeks, butt cheeks, legs - only pinkish/red in some of those places. She has seemed to feel pretty good - I haven't noticed that she is acting any differently lately.... which would be an indication that she is sick.

We have a b-day party here tomorrow (other dd) so I want to make sure she is ok before 8 little girls come over!! I put some Eucerin type cream on it tonight so we'll see how it looks tomorrow am.

notorious for getting a body rash when they have low grade fevers.

It used to wig me out, but after many trips to the doc, only to be told it's part of the virus causing the temp, I've learned to just keep an eye on it until it goes away.

Usually goes after a few days.

Hope it's nothing more serious.

Hives possibly???any new food? Egg peanuts shellfish ?? New laundry soap??? Give a dose of benadryl matched to her weight-see if the rash abates . If not it is most certainly a sign of viral or bacterial illness. It could also be fifths disease common not too nasty but I would not expose other kids without knowing for sure because it could be a very serious illness.Only when there is a bday party!!! I know its happened here as well-but I would not risk giving the other kids and their families a disease. Sure sounds like allergy I hope the little one is doing ok see if her throat is red or streaky inside as well-strep is going around here like mad.

Did you look at Fifth Disease (parvovirus B19)? It causes a fever (sometimes headaches, body aches) followed 3 to 21 days later by a rash. It frequently causes a rash that looks like slapped cheeks on the face. The good news is, once the fever appears, it is no longer contagious. The bad news is, your other children (or you) could have it, and not know it. Stay away from pregnant women until you rule out Fifth, or until it passes.

Here's a good article about Fifth Disease

Little ones have a fever for two or three days, and then once the fever ends a rash breaks out.

and I didn't think it looked like that.... it didn't seem to be red and lacey like that gets.

If she has any rash tomorrow I will def take her - I certainly don't want the other kids to get anything....

...tho dd6 (who's party it is for) has "lovingly" suggested we *could* just lock dd4 in her room so she doesn't get the other girls sick.... ahhh, sisterly love! This is the same dd who was stroking her sister's hair as I was examining her for bumps... lol -too funny

Strep is a sandpaper rash and that is in the same family with scarlet fever. I would certainly call the doctor if it is still there in the morning. I hope she feels better!

One ds here has had strep twice in his life and both times he has gotten this sandpapery rash. In fact, the fever and rash were his biggest symptoms each time. The second time his throat didn't really hurt. Agree with Jan to check with doc in morning.

I know you don't want to hear this, but your girl needs to be tested for strep before you have 8 little girls come into your home. Rapid test should show it immediately. Trust me, you don't want to wait to treat scarlet fever. All that really means is strep throat with a rash, and often times kids can have it and not know it. It is highly contagious. Just get her checked.

I am a bad mother. I let all illness run it's course and so far have never wanted to bring a fever down. When friends say "oh we had a bout with such and such" we still visit if they want to. Once the fever is over you are generally NOT contageous (sp?...as a nurse you would think I could spell this). Dd did catch Strep - which turned scarlet - one time from someone who did not know they were sick yet.

My understanding of it from the little old ladies I trust is that scarlet fever is just a rash which results from the breakdown of the virus....nothing more than releasing toxins. Only overwhelms a few who probably have other issues already - poor diet, compromised immunity, inability to detox whatever.

NOW - there is something called PANDAS - heard it here - you get it from strep - more common in boys....but I just dosed her with nature's "antibiotics" (silver, oregano oil, echinacea, vit C, lots of water) and we were fine.

I wouldn't have the party YET because you just don't know for sure what it is - whose pregnant - or who has a compromised immune system.

I like exposing dd to chicken pox - but wouldn't necessarily want to while I am pregnant KWIM? If it is fifth's (which I never heard of until here today) you wouldn't want to expose any newly pregnant mamas.

You should have her tested for strep before you have 8 dc over today.

Strep is easily treated, and it is better to be safe than sorry, both for your child and your visitors.
