View Full Version : Oak Meadow Science
I've been looking (and looking, and looking) at Oak Meadow 6th grade science. It looks interesting, but I was wondering what I need if I decide to purchase it for my son. Do I just need the science syllabus? Is that what the child/parent reads? Does it include the work as well? I don't see any other books that go along with 6th grade science.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Tamy.
The syllabus is a student text. The child reads from it and does projects that are described in it.
The text is very readable and chatty, and written directly to the student. There are several choices of projects and exercises at the end of each chapter, ranging from hands-on things like making a compost bin or a solar oven to essay questions requiring kids to think out their positions on technology ethics. I love OM science because the exercises are meaningful and not fluffy silly things. IMO a paper mache volcano is an art project, not a science experiment. The text is non-consumable.
There are no additional books or even book suggestions. It is in black and white. I'd recommend supplementing with a science encyclopedia if you have a visual learner.
