I'm curious about this although I am really looking at The Ocean Book (http://www.amazon.com/Ocean-Book-Aquarium-Seaside-Activities/dp/0471620785) by John Wiley & Sons to be a leading text. Is Marine Science (http://www.prufrock.com/productdetails.cfm?SKU=972) engaging, fun and easy? I like that we'd use the 3 books throughout the years with a strong progression. Another leading contender is Janice VanCleave's Oceans for Every Kid, I just want something to provide the experiments and possibly a little structure for reading about topics.

THanks in advance :bigear:

You've made me really curious too.:)

I have "The Ocean Book" and Janice VanCleave's book, as well as lots of other ocean books that we like to take down to the beach for some reading and exploring time. They're both great and I don't think I'd choose one over the other.

If anyone has info on "Marine Science" by Lisa Wood I want to know too.:)

Yeah, I looked at the table of contents of both The Ocean Book and Oceans for every kid and I can't see how to choose between them, they do not cover all the same topics. I'm disappointed in the lack of marine science selections, I guess it really is the least known frontier...

This is what really annoys me, we live on an island, the beach is only a few minutes away and beyond that is the beautiful Pacific Ocean which is filled with animals and plants. We have the perfect opportunity to explorer the ocean and yet I feel that while we don't live close to a chemistry museum or anything like that my kids have been far better educated in chemistry than in ocean science. Urgh.
