I was just browsing around on Amazon and noticed this has been revised and is now narrated by Jim Weiss. We have the original edition; should I buy the new version? Is the new one better?
Thanks!

We used SOTW 1 Cd's last year and they were by Jim Weiss. My kids love Jim Weiss' Cd's and we own many of them. This year we are doing SOTW 2 and the CD with Jim Weiss was not available so I bought the other one. My kids complained everytime we listened to it and asked me why it wasn't Jim Weiss. Around the holidays I found that it was now available with Jim Weiss narrating it so I bought it and history is going much more smoothly now. Jim Weiss has a way of drawing them in and he is so animated that they listen better. That's been my experience. HTH!

We had Vol. I and II with Barbara Alan Johnson. Then, we got Vol. III with Jim Weiss. My kids were quite familiar with Mr. Weiss, as we have well over a dozen of his story CDs, but they said that they liked Barbara Alan Johnson's reading better. I think they're just going to like person they heard first.
One thing I noticed is that Ms Johnson reads really fast. Mr. Weiss slows things way down.
I love Jim Weiss, but his voice is so relaxing, it puts ME right to sleep. It was definitely dangerous when we tried to listen on a long car trip. I had to take him out of the player to keep from falling asleep at the wheel. I could only listen to him for about a half hour at a time.

I have the lady narrator for 1 & 2, because Jim Weiss wasn't available back when I bought them. Although I would not purchase a new one, I would trade with anyone who wanted to. I prefer JW.

We have Vol 1&2 with Barbara Johnson and Vol 3&4 with Jim Weiss.
I say no.... don't sell the old. Johnson obviously has a different voice and style ;), but she is also a fine narrator. My kids enjoy both sets and they beg most often to hear the ancient set, featuring B. Johnson.

My dc prefer Barbara Johnson for SOTW and complained when we hit SOTW3 with Jim Weiss, event though they've enjoyed his storytelling otherwise!

My boys love to imitate Jim Weiss' style. But they prefer listening to Barbara Johnson.

My son prefers JW. When my son was listening to another audiobook series the first 2 were by JW. The third was read by another person. She was good also. But my son (and the whole family) loves Jim Weiss' voice and speaking style. The other (new) narrator had the effect of my son losing interest in the series.
